So, this weekend we had our first orientation! It was sooooooo much fun!!!!! So I only went to English class today, then i took the train to Neumünster and met Mckenna, from America, we flew in together, Pedro, from Brazil, Tanvi, and Urvashi, both from India. Then we met another exchange student from Brazil, Gustavo, at the Heide train station, and started to make our way to the hostel. BUT, we saw a pretzel shaped sign and decided to go get pretzels! But, what do you know, the store doesnt sell pretzels! So, we got pastrys and sat down and ate, and then we stayed for a while because it was raining :P
Pedro and Gustavo having their Portugese get together.
Then we made our way to the hostel and we met the other exchange students, there are 66 of us!!!! And we got our rooms, I roomed with Mckenna, Tanvi, and Urvashi. And guess what?!?!? There was an exchange student from Switzerland!!! That made me very excited since my parents are moving to Switzerland!!! Then we ate dinner and went to this big room, and everyone had to introduce themselves in German, with 66 of us, it took a while! Then we talked til around 12, when we were told to go to bed. Then some guy ran into our room twice yelling "Frühstuck" (breakfast") around 12:30 when we were trying to sleep!!!!
Sept. 15
Had to wake up at 6! A rotex (someone who's already gone on exchange) came in and turned on the light and told us to wake up, and we groaned but no one got up, my bed was right by the door, so after he left, i closed the door and turned of the light (you had to have been there). Then we ate breakfast, and took the bus to the boat, that was to take us to Helgoland (and island in the North Sea).
Us waiting for the bus.
Us waiting to get on the boat.
Above: the americans with the canadian flag, because we forgot ours... whoops!
Below: The Americans!
The name of our boat:
So, the boat ride was 3 1/2 hours!!! And cold. And windy. And really wavy. But, i didnt get sick!!!! Then we took a smaller boat to one of the islands and there was NOTHING there!!! But a lot of seals! So we watched them for a while and then ate lunch, and went to the "bigger" island.
As you can probably tell, it wasnt the warmest day.
On the bigger island, there was a playset!!! And people lived there!!!! And it was warmer!!! But we only got 30 min!!!! So, i bought Freddy's birthday presents, we took pics with this statue of a Native American that was there (...?), ate ice cream, and left!

This city reminded me of Exchange City and The Truman Show! It was so perfect! Then we had a nice 3 hour boat ride back to the mainland! And this time it was actually nice! No wind. It wasnt cold. And it was very calm! Then at the hostel we at dinner and practiced for our song presentation. Every country had to present a song that had something to do with the country and we did "Party in the USA" by Miley Cyrus!!!! It was awesome!!! Then we had a dance party, then we were told to go to bed, but we stayed in our room and talked until 2:30, then we went to bed around 3.
Sept. 16
We had to wake up at 7 this morning! We ate breakfast, cleaned our rooms, then me, Emily (from Alaska), and Aino (from Finland) decided to go to McDonalds before the train ride, but McDonalds didnt open until 12! and our train was at 12:02! Then we got on the train and i sat with, Andres (from Mexico), Kouichi (from Japan), and Marcelo (from Chile). So, Marcelo couldnt speak English so when I'd say something, Andres would translate and they'd have a 10 min conversation in Spanish, so then I decided to speak in German, but Andres couldn't understand, so Marcelo would translate and theyd talk for another 10 min! Then we got of the train, and Coco (a rotex), Emily (from Canada), and Emilio (from Argentina), went to Neumünster, while everyone else went to Hamburg.

The end of my first Rotary orientation. :(
